Where are our products made?
For some background, the majority of our products were originally crafted in our workshop in Turkey. Although that workshop has since closed, you’ll still find items on our website that were produced there.
Our newest collections, however, are now expertly crafted in our partner workshop in Ubrique, Spain, a town celebrated for its outstanding leather craftsmanship.
Tanner Leatherstein, PEGAI’s Chief Leather Craftsman, honed his skills in his father’s tannery in Canakkale, Turkey. Our products were traditionally made there by our dedicated team of artisans, many of whom are featured in our videos and across our website. We take pride in showcasing our Turkish workshop and the exceptional craftsmanship that came from it. Our artisans, primarily women, were the best-paid in Turkey's leather industry, reflecting our commitment to fair wages and gender equality.
We’ve invested in this team, providing training and opportunities that have led to the creation of exquisite bags that even impressed Spanish craftsmen. This success took six years of dedication, and we continue to attract skilled artisans due to our above-industry wages and commitment to quality.
At PEGAI, we strive to offer a unique leather craft experience at an accessible price, while ensuring the well-being of our artisans. While we could outsource to cheaper manufacturers, we prioritize quality, respect, and fairness over cost-cutting. This approach may not maximize profits, but it ensures a product we are proud of and aligns with our values.
Although our Turkish workshop is now closed, we’re thrilled about this new chapter for PEGAI as we partner with Spanish workshops to further enhance our craftsmanship, design, and quality.
