Why are there stamped numbers on the flesh side of my PEGAI leather craft?

The stamped numbers on the flesh side of our unlined leather crafts are a natural part of the process. These numbers, which indicate the area of the cowhide, are stamped by the tannery during the final quality control step of tanning.

When we create unlined leather goods, we intentionally leave the suede side exposed, which means the square footage stamp may appear on the finished product. Our primary focus when cutting the leather is the cleanliness of the grain, so the stamp can end up anywhere on the craft.

This is an inherent characteristic of distressed or natural-looking leather, and many of our customers appreciate it as a "stamp of authenticity," reflecting the minimal treatment our leather receives.

These stamps can be gently rubbed with a natural rubber, though they may not disappear immediately. Over time, as you use the product, the stamps will become less visible.
